Sky Larkin
Sky Larkin consist of long term friends and musical accomplices Katie and Nestor and later addition Doug, all hailing from Leeds. Since the addition of Doug to their band, Sky Larkin’s ascent has been rapid and exhilarating. Their debut album ‘The Golden Spike’, came out in February 2009 to much applause, while their sophomore long player, Kaleide was realised worldwide in August 2010, with great critical acclaim and an acknowledge of the band’s ever increasing qualities.
Kaleide was the culmination of a year’s solid touring in support of the band’s debut record. That intense period was followed by a three month break where the trio began writing and recording in a old crypt in Yorkshire, UK. What resulted from those session was a record that gained critical acclaim across the board, with Artrocker Magazine calling it ‘the album of the summer’ with 5/5 stars and the NME declaring the record to be ‘brilliant’ and awarding 8/10 in its pages. Praise continued with coverage and admiration from broadsheet newspapers such as the Guardian and Independent and other notable publications like The Sun and Daily Mirror.
The band’s ascent began in early 2009. After releasing The Golden Spike to a wealth of acclaim across the board, Sky Larkin embarked on a successful tour curated by BBC radio hero Huw Stephens which saw the band playing to thousands of new fans over a two week period, as well as bringing fellow Leeds party-noise heroes Pulled Apart By Horses to the fore. It continued to snowball from there.
The band returned from a successful headline tour in Europe and, never ones to settle for a minute, rocketed off to spend 5 weeks in America. shows in LA, a heavy duty schedule at SXSW were followed by a full US tour with Los Campesinos!, after which Sky Larkin returned to the UK for shows with The Rakes followed by their own headline dates in May and the release of another single, Antibodies.
That summer has seen triumphant shows at festivals in UK and Europe alike, with show stealing turns at Dour, Latitude and Truck amongst many others. The band then played further headline shows through September and October, before returning to the US. A tour with label-mates Peggy Sue was had, and the year ended with Sky Larkin playing their biggest shows in support of The Cribs, appearing before 3,000 fans each evening.
Following that, Sky Larkin completed the writing sessions for their new record, Kaleide, before returning to Seattle to record it with John Goodmanson, who helped create their first album. The band are set for another intense period of touring with US and European dates to follow a UK shows. The band are also set to tour with such notable artists as Frightened Rabbits (UK), Les Savy Fav (US) and Best Coast (US)
